This brass family tree stand, faithfully reproduced in the Napoleon III Rococo Revival tradition, is exactly that object. Its sinuous trunk rises from a four-footed pierced base, branching into five asymmetric arms, each terminating in a suspended oval frame whose perimeter is alive with cast acanthus scrolls, shell cartouches, and foliate flourishes. The five miniature portraits — each framed in its own richly ornamented oval — hang freely, catching light and movement as they sway, giving the piece an animate quality rare in decorative objects.

Materials & Craftsmanship

Cast and finished in gilt brass by Egyptian artisans working in the tradition of 19th-century Parisian fondeurs (bronze casters), every element of this piece demands close inspection. The trunk is modelled to suggest a living branch — textured bark-like surface, organic bends — while the leafwork at each junction confirms the Rococo vocabulary: curving, asymmetric, deliberately organic against the gilded warmth of the metal. The base, raised on four bracket feet and pierced with a repeating geometric pattern, provides visual weight that anchors the composition without heaviness. The oval frames themselves are miniature masterpieces: each one bordered with a carved cartouche crest, scroll side returns, and a pendant drop at the base — the same ornamental grammar found on the finest 19th-century French portrait miniature frames.

Dimensions & Details

Width: 27 cm / Height: 52 cm
Holds five oval miniature frames | Gilt brass construction | Four-footed pierced base | Swinging frame suspension | Suitable for photographs or painted miniatures

Handcrafted in Egypt

Each stand is handcrafted in Egypt by specialists in classical European brass work, using casting and hand-finishing techniques that trace directly to the ateliers of 19th-century Paris. Brass & Wood sources only skilled artisans who understand that the quality of a gilded finish lives in the preparation — in the layers of polish and the hand-buffing that gives the surface its warm, even luminosity.
