Empire Marble Pedestal Column with Gilt Bronze Mounts
Design Inspiration
Drawing directly from the grandeur of Napoleonic France, this pedestal column captures the essence of the Empire style — a period defined by monumental forms, classical antiquity references, and lavish use of gilt bronze against dark stone. The verde antico marble shaft rises from a bold square plinth, evoking the ceremonial columns of imperial palaces and salons.
Materials & Finish
The column is constructed from genuine verde antico marble, celebrated for its deep green tone and intricate white veining. Every bronze element — the acanthus-leaf capital, the swag-draped mid-collar with its finely chased drapery, and the urn appliqué adorning the plinth — is cast in solid brass and finished in rich antique gilt, replicating the authentic ormolu technique of 19th-century French ateliers.
Craftsmanship
Each piece is handcrafted in the Brass & Wood workshops in Egypt by artisans trained in classical European joinery and metalwork traditions. The bronze mounts are individually cast, hand-chased, and polished before being carefully fitted to the marble body, ensuring a seamless marriage of stone and metal that honours the original Imperial aesthetic.
