Empire Neoclassical Decorative Pedestal with Marble Column & Gold Brass Mounts
Design Inspiration
Rooted in the grandeur of the French Empire period, this decorative column pedestal draws from the monumental neoclassical aesthetic championed during the Napoleonic era. The open-arch mahogany frame dramatically showcases a central freestanding marble column crowned with an ornate Corinthian capital — a hallmark of imperial Roman revival design.
Materials
Crafted from solid mahogany with a warm reddish-brown finish, the pedestal features a genuine veined marble column shaft and top surface. All decorative hardware — including the Corinthian capital, base bell, and scrollwork frieze — is cast in antique gold brass, lending each surface a luminous, aged richness.
Craftsmanship
Every detail is the result of meticulous handwork by Brass & Wood artisans in Egypt. The frieze beneath the marble top is hand-chased with interlocking foliate scrolls and a central rosette medallion in gilded brass. The base drawer panel features hand-engraved brass cartouche detailing, while fine brass beading trims every structural edge with precision and elegance.
