Louis XV Tea Trolley | Rosewood & Gilt Bronze Ormolu Two-Tier
Design Inspiration
Drawing from the exuberant spirit of the Louis XV court, this two-tier tea trolley captures the very essence of 18th-century French Rococo. Its sinuous cabriole legs, serpentine apron, and cascading foliate ormolu mounts evoke the playful grandeur of Versailles salons, where the ritual of afternoon tea was elevated to an art form. The delicate blush of the opaline glass surfaces lends a romantic luminosity that transforms every serving moment into theatre.
Materials & Finish
The structural frame is crafted from solid, kiln-dried rosewood, its rich warmth enhanced by a hand-rubbed, deep-mahogany lacquer finish that reveals the wood's natural quarter-sawn figuring. Each tier surface is fitted with genuine pink opaline glass — an opulent choice favoured by the French aristocracy — framed by precision-cast, antique gilt-bronze ormolu galleries. The decorative mounts — floral cartouches, acanthus-leaf sabots, winged trophy centrepieces, and scroll-form handles — are individually cast in solid brass, hand-chased, and finished in warm 24-karat antique gold plating by Brass & Wood master artisans in Egypt.
Craftsmanship
Every component of this trolley is produced in the Brass & Wood atelier using traditional hand techniques inherited from classical European cabinetmaking. Mortise-and-tenon joinery reinforces the cabriole legs; each ormolu mount is fitted by hand to ensure seamless integration with the carved wood. The result is a collectible piece that honours centuries-old craft traditions while functioning as a supremely refined serving trolley for the modern interior.
