Neoclassical Crested Bed in Ivory Lacquer
An ivory-lacquered bed with a shaped headboard that steps up through an arched panel to a pierced carved crest of acanthus, palmette and rose garlands hung with ribboned swags. Turned finials cap the uprights on either side, the panel below is framed in a fine raised moulding, and the side rails run low and plain so the crest carries all of the ornament. The soft ivory finish is rubbed back over the carving, leaving a faint warm shadow in the deeper cuts.
The crest is carved as a separate element and pierced by hand before it is fitted, lacquered and antiqued to match the frame. Handcrafted by Brass & Wood in Egypt, it suits a lighter, softer bedroom — pale walls, linen or embroidered cotton bedding, painted bedsides — where the ivory keeps the room calm and the carving supplies the detail.
