Bombé Chest of Drawers in Antique Brass Finish

A generous chest of drawers built on a full bombé line, curving out at the front and sides before drawing back into short cabriole legs with scrolled feet. Three long drawers carry the same hand-carved vocabulary of daisies, leaves and feathered plumes, with slim foliate pulls set low across each front, carved acanthus running down the front corners, and a broad rocaille cartouche spreading across the shaped apron. The top follows the serpentine outline in a moulded edge, and the body is finished in a warm antique brass that pools darker in the hollows of the carving.

Shaping a bombé carcass means bending the case in two directions at once, then carving the ornament into the finished curve so nothing flattens at the corners. Handcrafted by Brass & Wood in Egypt, it holds a long wall in a master bedroom or a wide hallway, and takes a mirror, a facing pair of lamps or a bronze above it without crowding.
