George III Pierced Giltwood Mirror - Flower Basket Crest & Rocaille Scrolls
Design & Inspiration
Modeled on the great pierced mirrors of the George III period, this frame surrounds its oval plate with an openwork lattice of rocaille C-scrolls, acanthus sprays and flambeau urns, all rising to a crest carved as a woven basket spilling flowers. The piercing lets the wall breathe through the frame — the signature theatrical lightness of mid-18th-century carving.
Materials & Craftsmanship
Carved from solid Romanian redwood (dried below 10% humidity), gilded and burnished by hand so highlights flash against shadowed recesses. The oval mirror plate is bevel-set within a ribbed giltwood surround.
