Louis XVI Neoclassical Channeled Ivory Upholstered Bench with Gilt Laurel Apron
Design & Inspiration
This handcrafted bench draws directly from the design vocabulary of the Louis XVI / Neoclassical period (1760–1800), when French court furniture stepped back from Rococo exuberance and rediscovered the discipline of antiquity. The piece is compact in scale yet carries real visual authority: four fluted, tapered legs terminating in small brass sabots, a dark walnut-toned frame accented with gilt fluting, and an apron animated by hand-applied gilt laurel branches flowing across all four sides. It is the kind of piece that elevates whatever room it enters — placed at the foot of a bed, beside an armchair, or in a hallway — without demanding attention for itself.
Materials & Craftsmanship
The frame is constructed from solid beech, a dense, stable timber that accepts fine carving and holds a finish for decades. The dark brown stain deepens toward the corners and along the fluted legs, where gilt detailing — applied in the Neoclassical tradition of subtle contrast rather than theatrical opulence — catches light at every angle. The apron mounts are cast in gilt brass, each laurel sprig modeled with individual leaf definition; corner rosettes anchor the composition at each joint. The seat is upholstered in a smooth ivory satin-finish fabric, channeled vertically into three lobes that create tactile rhythm across the surface. The upholstery is tight-set over HR foam for a firm yet comfortable sit.

Handcrafted in Egypt
Every bench in this collection is produced by hand in the Brass & Wood atelier in Egypt, where craftsmen trained in classical European joinery and gilding techniques reproduce each detail with care. The laurel apron mounts are individually cast and hand-applied; the fluting on the legs is carved, not routed. This is the distinction between a replica made with intention and one made with indifference — and it is visible in the finish.
