Design & Inspiration

Place this table in a corner and the room gains a focal point it did not know it needed. The top draws the eye immediately: a quarter-matched veneer field radiating from a central bouquet marquetry panel, framed by symmetrical foliate cartouches at each corner — the kind of surface that rewards close inspection. Below, the apron is dressed in sculptural gilt bronze acanthus-and-poppy mounts that spill from the corners and gather at the front centre panel, which itself carries a smaller marquetry reserve. The four slender, tapered and reeded legs terminate in bright gilt sabots — precise, disciplined, and entirely in the spirit of Louis XVI cabinetmaking at its most accomplished. This piece faithfully reproduces the tradition of late 18th-century French Neoclassical marquetry tables, drawing from the design vocabulary of the great Parisian ébénistes who balanced architectural restraint with lavish surface decoration.

Materials & Craftsmanship

The table is built on a foundation of solid mahogany, ensuring dimensional stability in varied climates. The top surface is veneered and then hand-inlaid with multiple wood species to form the marquetry composition: the warm amber tones of the central floral motif, the rich quartered field, and the lighter trellis border all speak to hours of precision cutting and fitting by an experienced hand. The apron and corner mounts are cast in bronze and finished in an antique gold tone, with the level of relief detail — veined leaves, curling acanthus, open poppy flowers — consistent with the French ormolu tradition. The legs are turned and reeded on the lathe, then given a French polish that deepens the mahogany tone without obscuring the wood's natural grain. Every component is assembled by hand in Egypt, where the craft traditions of European classical furniture have been maintained and refined over decades.

Handcrafted in Egypt

Brass & Wood operates from Egypt, where a dedicated team of craftsmen — trained in European classical furniture techniques — produces every piece by hand. The marquetry on this table is cut and assembled one piece at a time; the bronze mounts are individually cast, chased, and fitted. No two tables are identical in the finest details of the inlay grain direction, which means each piece carries its own character. Customisation of finish tone, mount colour, or veneer species is available on request — contact the Brass & Wood atelier to discuss your requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

What materials is this table made from?

The frame and structure are built from solid mahogany. The top is finished with hand-laid wood marquetry in multiple veneer species. The decorative mounts on the apron and corners are cast bronze with an antique gold finish. The legs are turned, reeded, and French-polished.

Is assembly required?

Minimal assembly is required — typically attaching the legs to the apron frame, which can be accomplished with basic tools. Full fitting instructions are provided with each piece.

Can this table be customised?

Yes. Brass & Wood offers customisation of wood finish tone, bronze mount colour (gold, silver, or antique bronze), and veneer selection. Lead times for customised pieces are confirmed at the time of order. Contact our team to discuss your specific requirements.
