Design & Inspiration

Place this set of three nesting tables in any room and the first thing you notice is the brass — not as a coating but as architecture. The pierced gallery that frames each tabletop is drawn directly from the guéridon and table volante tradition of Louis XVI's court workshops, where gilt bronze galleries were used to secure objects on tabletops and simultaneously transformed the table edge into a piece of fine metalwork. These tables faithfully reproduce that tradition: the latticed brass apron catches and scatters light around itself, so the table seems to glow even when unlit.

Materials & Craftsmanship

Each of the three tables is built on a foundation of solid beech, turned and tapered into the distinctive fluted-column legs that are the unmistakable signature of Louis XVI furniture. The legs terminate in hand-cast brass sabots — torch-flame and acanthus-leaf forms that echo the Neoclassical ornamental vocabulary of the 1770s–1790s. The tabletops are clear tempered glass, held within a triple-tiered pierced brass gallery: the openwork scrolling pattern references the antique rinceaux motif that French ébénistes borrowed from Roman decorative arts. The brass throughout is finished in a warm gold tone, coordinating with the lacquered medium-brown wood of the legs. The cross-stretchers linking the legs on the larger tables add structural integrity while reinforcing the classical architectural reference — a table that thinks of itself as a small building.

Handcrafted in Egypt

Each table in this set is handcrafted in Egypt by artisans trained in classical European furniture reproduction. The brass components are individually cast and hand-finished; the wood is shaped and lacquered by hand. Brass & Wood's workshops combine traditional joinery techniques with rigorous quality control, ensuring that every piece leaving the workshop matches the design intent of the original period. Customization of wood finish, brass tone, or glass type is available on request.
