Louis XV Bombe Commode with Hand-Painted Chinoiserie & Marble Top
Design Inspiration
Rooted in the opulence of the Louis XV era, this magnificent bombe commode draws from the 18th-century European fascination with Eastern artistry. Each curved surface tells a story through vivid hand-painted chinoiserie landscapes — exotic palms, rustic pavilions, and warm autumnal trees — all framed within elaborate rococo cartouches of swirling black and gold scrollwork.
Materials
Constructed from premium solid wood, the commode features a genuinely serpentine bombe silhouette that exemplifies French baroque craftsmanship. The top is crowned with a slab of naturally veined rouge marble, adding both weight and grandeur. Gilded brass ormolu mounts adorn the corners, legs, and drawer pulls, lending authentic period character.
Hand-Painted Artistry
Every surface is a canvas. Skilled artisans apply multiple layers of lacquer and hand-paint each chinoiserie scene with meticulous detail, using warm sienna, burnt orange, and deep crimson tones accented by fine gold highlights. No two pieces are ever identical.
Craftsmanship
Entirely handcrafted in Egypt by Brass & Wood master craftsmen, this commode honours centuries-old European joinery traditions. The two bowed drawers glide smoothly on hand-fitted runners, and every brass fitting is individually cast, finished, and applied by hand.
