Neoclassical Chest of Drawers with Carved Laurel Wreath
A Neoclassical chest of drawers with a serpentine top and a stack of graduated drawers, faced across the centre with a large carved laurel wreath gathered under a ribbon bow. The wreath spans several drawer fronts at once, so the ornament stays whole while the chest is closed. Carved acanthus scrolls fill the two upper corners, fluted columns are engaged at either side, and small round pulls sit quietly against the antiqued champagne gold finish.
Running an applied carving across several drawer fronts is exacting work: each section is carved and fitted individually so the wreath aligns perfectly when the drawers are shut, then the whole case is gilded and rubbed back by hand. Handcrafted by Brass & Wood in Egypt, it gives a bedroom deep folded storage without a wardrobe's bulk, and holds its own on a landing or in a dressing room.
