rococo-oval-brass-photo-frame-ribbon-crest-foliate-stand
Rococo Oval Brass Photo Frame with Ribbon Crest and Foliate Stand

Design & Inspiration

Place this frame on a writing desk and it immediately anchors the surface — not as decoration applied to a functional object, but as a miniature piece of French Rococo sculpture that happens to hold a photograph. The oval aperture, the scrolling asymmetric border, the ribbon-bow cartouche cresting the top, and the fantastically branching easel stand below all speak the same visual language: the Louis XV decorative vocabulary of the 1740s–1760s, when French craftsmen dissolved the straight line entirely in favor of the living curve. This frame faithfully reproduces that spirit in cast brass, scaled for the modern interior.

Materials & Craftsmanship

Cast in solid brass and finished by hand, the frame carries the warmth and visual weight that only cast metal can achieve. The border is worked with C-scroll and rocaille relief — the signature ornament of the Rococo, derived from the irregular rock and shell forms that 18th-century designers celebrated as nature's own asymmetry. The ribbon bow at the crest is cast with soft, naturalistic folds rather than mechanical regularity, a detail that separates handcrafted work from mass production. The easel stand at the base extends into branching foliate forms — crossed arrows or hunt trophies in the French tradition — giving the piece a sculptural presence from every angle. The finish is applied by hand, catching light differently across the relief's peaks and recesses.

Dimensions & Details

Width: 18 cm / Height: 25 cm
Oval aperture suited for a standard portrait print or a cherished personal photograph. Free-standing on the integrated cast brass easel stand. Available in multiple brass finishes — each variant transforms the character of the piece from warm salon gold to cooler silver.

Handcrafted in Egypt

Every frame is produced in Egypt by artisans working in the tradition of European decorative metalwork. Brass & Wood's workshops combine hand-finishing techniques with precise casting to ensure that each piece carries the relief detail and finish quality demanded by the Rococo original. The result is a decorative object that earns its place on a consul table, dressing table, or library shelf — not simply because it holds a photograph, but because the frame itself is worth looking at.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is this frame made from?

The frame is cast entirely from solid brass and finished by hand.
