Materials & Craftsmanship

The table body is constructed from solid pine at less than 10% humidity — a timber chosen for its stability and its receptivity to fine painted finishes. The rose-toned ground is laid down in multiple coats, each hand-sanded, before the craftsman applies the chinoiserie decoration: delicate flowering branches, birds, and scattered blossoms rendered in white, sage green, and soft gold. These motifs draw directly from the decorative language that swept European aristocratic interiors from the Régence period onward and found its most refined expression in the Belle Époque salon. The gilded bead-and-tongue molding at the table's apron and the carved, fully gilded cabriole legs — terminating in scroll feet — are finished in 22-carat gold leaf over a traditional gesso ground. The kidney-shaped central section of the table top provides the intimacy of a true coiffeuse.
