Louis XV Bombe Commode in Kingwood with Marble Top & Ormolu Mounts
Design Inspiration
Rooted in the opulent curves of 18th-century French court furniture, this bombe commode captures the exuberant spirit of the Louis XV era. Its dramatically swelling silhouette, cabriole legs tipped with gilded sabots, and serpentine apron reflect the Rococo obsession with organic movement and aristocratic grandeur.
Precious Materials
The carcass is constructed from solid hardwood, lavishly veneered in deep mahogany-toned kingwood that reveals rich, flame-like grain patterns. The shaped top is crafted from genuine rouge royal marble, its ivory-and-rust veining providing a striking contrast to the warm timber below. Corner and apron mounts are cast in solid brass and finished in antique gold, lending an authentic ormolu character to every surface.
Drawers & Hardware
Two generously proportioned drawers glide on precision-fitted runners, each fronted with hand-chased rocaille brass escutcheons and sweeping foliate pull handles. The decorative apron cartouche at the base echoes the asymmetrical flourishes beloved by Rococo craftsmen.
Craftsmanship
Every piece is entirely handmade in Brass & Wood's Cairo atelier by artisans trained in classical European joinery. Veneers are hand-laid and hand-polished to a lustrous finish, while brass components are individually cast, filed, and patinated — ensuring each commode is a singular work of functional art.
