Edwardian Floral Hand-Painted Bench with Blush Velvet & Bolster Cushions
Design & Inspiration
There is a particular quality of light in an Edwardian drawing room — gentle, diffuse, falling across pale painted surfaces decorated with hand-rendered botanicals. This bench captures exactly that atmosphere. The ivory-ground frame, animated by hand-painted roses, forget-me-nots, and trailing leaves in soft polychrome, establishes a presence that reads as both refined and intimate. Two cylindrical bolster cushions sit at either end, tasselled and rosette-finished, framing a generous blush pink velvet seat that invites you to pause. This is a piece designed to be noticed from across the room — and to reward closer inspection even more.
Materials & Craftsmanship
The frame is constructed from solid pine, turned on a lathe into slender, rhythmically articulated columns and rails. The paintwork is applied by hand in multiple layers: a white-ivory base coat, then fine floral motifs rendered freehand in warm polychrome — oranges, pinks, blues, and greens — giving each piece a subtly unique character. The seat cushion is cut from high-density foam and upholstered in blush pink velvet with a clean piped edge, while the matching bolster cushions are finished with silk-cord tassels and decorative rosette medallions. The legs — six turned columns in the same ivory finish — rest on small bun-style feet, maintaining the piece's lightness of proportion.

Handcrafted in Egypt
Every Brass & Wood bench is made entirely by hand in our Egyptian workshop. The turning, joinery, painting, and upholstery are performed by craftsmen who treat each piece as an individual commission, not a production run. The floral decoration is painted freehand — no stencils, no transfers — meaning the botanical motifs on your bench will carry the unmistakable character of the hand that made them. Customisation of velvet colour and floral palette is available on request.
