Louis XVI Carved Rose Crest Wall Mirror - Antique White Laurel Frieze

Design & Inspiration

Place this mirror on a wall and notice how the room shifts. The antique white frame catches whatever light is available and reflects it gently back, while the arched upper rail — crowned with a hand-sculpted bouquet of full-bloom roses and layered foliage — draws the eye upward and holds it there. This is a mirror that announces itself quietly but firmly. It is faithfully reproduced in the tradition of Louis XVI Neoclassical design, where botanical motifs were deployed with deliberate grace to soften the strict geometry of the period's architectural lines.

Materials & Craftsmanship

The frame is constructed from solid pine seasoned to below 10% humidity, ensuring dimensional stability in varying climates. Each section of the laurel-leaf runner frieze — the continuous chain of paired leaves and small flower rosettes that borders all four sides — has been carved by hand, with individual petals retaining the slight variation in depth that machine production cannot replicate. The crest is a separate sculptural element: two full peony roses accompanied by a bud and naturalistic leaf clusters, their surfaces worked in fine relief to reveal shadow and volume. The finish is an antiqued off-white, hand-rubbed to allow the deeper carved recesses to hold a warm tone, giving the frame a sense of age and presence without mimicking damage.

Handcrafted in Egypt

Every mirror leaving the Brass & Wood atelier in Egypt is shaped, carved, and finished by craftsmen trained in the European classical tradition. The rose crest on this mirror is assembled and refined by hand, with no two pieces sharing an identical surface texture. This is what separates a handcrafted replica from a mass-produced frame: the maker's touch is present in the weight of every petal.
