Louis XVI Mirrored Dressing Table in Antique Gold

A dressing table in the Louis XVI taste, built as two bow-fronted pedestals joined by a recessed kneehole and crowned with a tall arched mirror. The mirror frame is moulded and gilded, topped by a carved ribbon bow that ties the whole composition together. Each pedestal carries a shaped drawer above a door centred with a carved laurel wreath and trailing ribbon, while a single long drawer bridges the kneehole. Fluted pilasters run down the corners to tapered fluted feet, and the antiqued champagne gold finish is rubbed back along the mouldings.

The mirror crest, the wreaths and the ribbons are all carved by hand, and the frame is gilded then polished back so the relief catches the light rather than the flat ground. Handcrafted by Brass & Wood in Egypt, it belongs along a bedroom wall with a stool drawn up beneath the kneehole: practical enough for daily use, decorative enough to become the focal wall of the room.
