Louis XVI Neoclassical Gilded Fauteuil - Fluted Legs & Floral Jacquard
Design & Inspiration
There is a particular quality that a Louis XVI Neoclassical fauteuil brings to a room — the composed authority of a chair that knows exactly what it is. The frame rises in straight, disciplined lines: a rectangular back bordered by rope-twist moulding, arms that curve gently outward before resolving into scrolled acanthus terminals, four fluted tapered legs descending to small turned feet. Every element is intentional. This chair, faithfully reproduced in the tradition of the Louis XVI Neoclassical salon chair, carries the disciplined geometry that defines the Louis XVI Neoclassical salon chair.
Materials & Craftsmanship
The frame is carved from Romanian solid redwood dried to below ten percent humidity, ensuring dimensional stability across decades of use. The entire surface is finished in a warm gilded lacquer that catches light across each carved detail: the rope-twist border that runs the full perimeter of the back and seat rail, the acanthus leaves that climb the arm supports and unfurl at the arm terminals, a carved ribbon-and-wreath crest crowns the centre of the top rail, square rosette blocks mark the joints of the back and seat rails. The four fluted tapered legs — each with crisp parallel channels — rise from small turned feet that ground the chair without visual heaviness. The upholstery is a champagne floral jacquard woven with garlands and flowering sprays in tones that shift from ivory to warm gold depending on the light. The seat and back panels are finished with a braided gimp trim along their borders, a detail that belongs precisely to this tradition of formal salon seating.
