Rococo Bombé Commode with Carved Floral Relief

A bedside commode with a swollen bombé body and a shaped, serpentine top edged in a soft moulding. Two long drawers carry a low-relief pattern of scattered daisies and feathered plumes that continues around the curved sides, while carved acanthus mounts wrap the front corners and a rocaille cartouche fills the shaped apron below. Slender cabriole legs finish in scrolled toes, and the whole piece is hand-finished in a warm antique brass tone, with the drawers lined in deep red.

The ornament is carved by hand into solid timber before the finish is laid on and rubbed back, so the highlights settle along the raised petals and scrolls. Handcrafted by Brass & Wood in Egypt, it is sized to stand beside a classical bed as a nightstand, or to work on its own in an entry or dressing corner holding a lamp and a few small things.
