Silver Leaf Rococo Bedroom Set with Bombé Commode

The whole group is finished in a champagne silver leaf that shifts between warm and cool as the light moves across it, so the carving is read by shadow rather than by contrast of colour. The bombé commode swells on all sides, its front and flanks covered in a relief of daisies, fronds and scrolling foliage, with deeply carved shoulders and cabriole legs curling into scrolled feet. The chest of drawers repeats the same bombé line at a broader scale, its serpentine top overhanging a carved apron. The dressing table takes a lighter form, a shaped top on slender cabriole legs above a carved frieze, crowned by a mirror in an openwork frame of scrolls, shells and acanthus.

Each piece is carved from solid timber by hand, the floral relief cut directly into the case rather than applied, then sealed, leafed and burnished so the silver settles into the recesses and lifts on the raised edges. Handcrafted by Brass & Wood in Egypt, the set is made for a bedroom with room to breathe, where a metallic finish can act as the room's jewellery against calm walls and plain textiles.
