Louis XV Marble-Top Commode in Ivory Lacquer

A Louis XV bedside commode crowned with a serpentine white marble top, its softly shaped edge following the curve of the case beneath it. A single wide drawer is carved across its front with flowing rocaille scrolls and acanthus foliage, centred by an antiqued brass swan-neck bail pull. The ivory lacquer finish carries a warm blush undertone that lifts every line of the relief carving, while slender cabriole legs sweep outward from carved acanthus knees down to delicately scrolled feet.

Each curve is shaped and carved by hand before the lacquer is built up in successive coats and polished back to a soft satin sheen, and the marble slab is cut to follow the serpentine profile of the case exactly. Handcrafted by Brass & Wood in Egypt, it is scaled to sit beside a bed as a nightstand, though it is just as at home flanking a dressing area or carrying a lamp in a classic entry hall.
