Design & Inspiration

There is a moment every morning — the mirror, the light, the ritual of preparation — that deserves a setting worthy of it. This dressing table, faithfully reproduced in the tradition of the Louis XV Rococo coiffeuse, creates exactly that setting. The shell-crested mirror rises above the table like a frame around the day ahead, its sculpted silver-leaf curves catching the morning light and turning a functional routine into something closer to ceremony. The entire ensemble — table, mirror, and seven drawers — speaks in the design vocabulary of eighteenth-century French court furniture, reinterpreted here for the modern bedroom.

Materials & Craftsmanship

The table body is constructed from solid pine and finished in a crisp white lacquer that allows the silver-leaf-highlighted carved ornament to read with precision. The top surface is dressed in genuine marble, its natural veining adding organic depth against the lacquered white ground. Six drawers flank a central knee recess — the upper drawers slightly shallower for jewelry and cosmetics, the lower ones generous enough for accessories — and each is lined in rich crimson velvet, a detail that transforms every opening into its own small luxury. The ring-pull hardware is cast in antique silver-finish metal, with each pull featuring delicate scroll and bead detailing consistent with Rococo metalwork. The mirror frame is hand-carved and silver-leafed, shaped in the characteristic Rococo cartouche outline — asymmetric lobes, scrolled shoulders, and a prominent shell (coquille) at the crown. A central acanthus-scroll cartouche ornaments the apron between the knee recess and the flanking pedestals. The cabriole legs, carved with acanthus at the knee and tapering to a scroll foot, provide the piece's quintessential Rococo silhouette.

Handcrafted in Egypt

Every piece that leaves the Brass & Wood workshop in Egypt is the result of hand work: the carving is done by craftsmen who have trained in classical European ornament for years, the silver leaf is applied by hand in multiple layers, and the lacquer is built up in smooth, buffed coats. The crimson velvet drawer linings are cut and fitted individually. This is not mass production — it is workshop production in the tradition of the Parisian atelier, carried forward in Cairo. The result is a dressing table that earns its place at the center of a bedroom.
