Design Inspiration

Inspired by the refined grandeur of late 18th-century French royal cabinetry, this commode captures the elegant restraint of the Louis XVI era. The central panel showcases a hand-inlaid marquetry composition depicting a classical lyre, floral bouquets, and symbolic torches — motifs favored by the courts of Versailles. Flanking trompe-l'œil diamond parquetry panels add geometric sophistication, while the serpentine form of the body preserves the graceful movement of the period.

Materials

Constructed from solid hardwood, the piece is veneered with meticulously selected satinwood and mahogany to achieve the contrasting warm tones characteristic of the Louis XVI palette. The top is finished in genuine veined marble, providing both visual drama and lasting durability. All metal accents — including the frieze molding, corner pilasters, and sabots — are cast in solid brass with an antique gold finish.

Craftsmanship

Every element of this commode is handcrafted by Brass & Wood artisans in Egypt, drawing on generations of classical joinery and marquetry tradition. The parquetry inlay is set piece by piece, while the ormolu-style brass mounts are individually cast, chased, and applied by hand. Turned tapered legs with brass capped feet complete the silhouette, ensuring both structural integrity and period-authentic elegance.
