Louis XVI Neoclassical Solid Wood Fauteuil - Gilt Acanthus & Floral Jacquard
Design & Inspiration
This is the luxury neoclassical fauteuil at its most characteristic — geometry and ornament held in careful balance. The chair presents a strictly rectangular back panel, its perimeter defined by a hand-carved rope-twist moulding finished in gold, above which a ribbon-bow crest marks the topmost rail. The four straight, tapered fluted legs rise to rosette corner blocks — the detail that distinguishes the Louis XVI vocabulary from Rococo exuberance. Every structural line declares order; every carved surface replies with warmth. Inspired by the refined discipline of the Louis XVI Neoclassical period (1760–1800), this fauteuil faithfully reproduces the open-arm chair form that furnished the salons and formal reception rooms of late eighteenth-century Europe.
Materials & Craftsmanship
The frame is built from Romanian solid redwood at less than 10% humidity, turned and shaped by hand before receiving a French polish in a deep mahogany tone. The polish is applied in successive thin layers and burnished between coats — a technique that yields the characteristic warm depth visible in the grain. Gilt carved-wood acanthus leaves cascade from the arm supports down toward the leg capitals, and a continuous rope-twist moulding borders both the back frame and the seat rail. No brass hardware is used; every gilded element is carved wood finished with gold. The upholstery is a champagne floral jacquard — scrolling acanthus and a central rose bouquet on a pale silver-grey ground — finished along its edges with a fine gimp braid. The arm pads are upholstered to match the seat and back, completing a unified surface.

The result is a piece that brings the furniture tradition of late eighteenth-century Paris into a contemporary interior without compromise.
