Silver-Leaf Rococo Caned Bedroom Set
A grand Rococo bedroom set built around a bed with woven cane panels set into a deeply carved frame. The headboard sweeps upward in a shaped cartouche and breaks into a crest of full-blown carved roses, with garlands of flowers and foliage running down the curved edges and gathering again at the centre of the footboard. The frame is finished in a soft silver-leaf patina, rubbed and shaded so the highlights sit on the raised petals while the recesses stay shadowed, and the honey tone of the natural rattan glows against it. Cabriole legs, scrolled uprights and a continuous moulded border tie the bed to the matching bedside commodes and the oval carved mirror that complete the group.
The roses and garlands are carved by hand from solid timber before the silver finish is laid leaf by leaf and antiqued, and every cane panel is hand-woven and fitted into its shaped opening. Handcrafted by Brass & Wood in Egypt, the set belongs in a generous master bedroom with high walls and a chandelier — the kind of room where an eighteenth-century French silhouette is meant to be the first thing you see.
