Authenticity Two-Drawer Bedside Commode in Ivory Lacquer

A compact bedside commode with a softly shaped top and two drawers, each opening on a round gilt-brass knob. The upper drawer carries a moulded panel centred on a carved rocaille appliqué, while another carved flourish spreads across the shaped apron beneath, and slender scrolled leaves run down the front corners to meet the cabriole legs. The ivory lacquer is worked so the raised carving sits a shade lighter than the ground, giving the piece depth without a single note of colour.

The curved rails, the corner scrolls and every leaf of the appliqués are carved by hand before the frame is lacquered and hand-rubbed to a warm satin finish. Handcrafted by Brass & Wood in Egypt, it stands easily beside a carved bed or under a bedroom window, holding a lamp and a small stack of books while keeping the floor line light on its raised legs.
