Celadon and Gold Leaf Louis XV Bedroom Set
A pale celadon painted finish runs through the whole group, edged and accented in gold leaf that catches the light along every moulding. The chest of drawers is the anchor: a bombé body with a serpentine front and four deep drawers, capped by a white marble top with a shaped profile, gilded banding above the top drawer, a carved gilt shell at the centre of the apron and cabriole legs finished in gilded sabots. The bed carries the same palette upward in a tall carved headboard, its crest picked out in gold against the soft blue-grey ground, with a matching bedside piece keeping the line low beside it.
The bombé shape is built and shaped by hand before the celadon ground is laid, dragged and rubbed back so the colour breathes, then the gold leaf is applied by hand along the mouldings and carving rather than sprayed. Drawers run on hand-fitted timber and are pulled by small ring handles that suit the scale of the front. Handcrafted by Brass & Wood in Egypt, it is a set for a bright, high-ceilinged bedroom where marble, gilding and soft colour can sit together without competing.
