Materials & Craftsmanship

The frame is built from solid pine dried to below 10% humidity — a foundation chosen for dimensional stability in variable climates. Over it, craftsmen have applied layer upon layer of gesso before laying a gold lacquer finish that reads warm and deep rather than brash. The carving is the centrepiece: an open apron of scrolling acanthus leaves, rosette medallions, and C-scroll volutes wraps the circumference of the table, pierced at the top rail to reveal the ornament in silhouette. Each of the four cabriole legs emerges from a carved acanthus knee, tapering to a scrolled toe. A lower X-stretcher, centred with a carved rosette boss, braces the legs and provides the visual anchor that stops the piece from appearing to float. The circular top is inset with a single slab of travertine in warm beige — its natural linear veining a calm counterpoint to the drama of the carved frame below. A rope-twist egg-and-dart border in gold frames the stone, completing the Rococo vocabulary of nature translated into ornament.
