Napoleon III Rococo Revival Gilt Brass Guéridon with Travertine Top
Design & Inspiration
There are side tables, and then there are objects of decorative art that happen to hold a vase. This guéridon belongs firmly in the second category. Every surface of its bright gilt brass structure demands — and rewards — close attention: the pierced lattice apron beneath the travertine top, the central cartouche medallion flanked by acanthus-wrapped legs, and the sunburst stretcher at the base, crowned with a pine-cone finial. Placed beside a salon canapé or in the corner of a formal reception room, it reads as a sculptural accent before it reads as furniture. Faithfully reproduced in the tradition of Napoleon III Rococo Revival craftsmanship — the era when Parisian ateliers revived the exuberance of Louis XV with a new industrial precision and even greater decorative ambition.
Materials & Craftsmanship
The entire understructure is cast and hand-finished bright gilt brass, achieving the high-polish luminosity that characterises the finest Napoleon III–era bronziers. Four sweeping cabriole legs, each surfaced with naturalistic leaf and bark carving, rise from scroll-footed feet to meet a pierced diamond-lattice apron. At the center of the apron, an oval cartouche medallion — a motif drawn directly from the Rococo Revival vocabulary — is framed by radiating acanthus leaves. The four legs converge at a lower stretcher level where a starred sunburst platform, again centred by a pine-cone finial, provides both structural rigidity and decorative drama. The top is a round slab of travertine marble with a beige-warm tone and characteristic linear veining, set within a gadroon-edged brass rim that echoes the decorative language of the base.

At Brass & Wood, each piece in our atelier collection passes through the hands of specialists in metal casting, hand-chasing, and stone setting. This guéridon's brass framework is sand-cast in sections, then hand-chased to crisp the leaf detail before the bright gold finish is applied. The travertine top is individually cut, edged, and fitted to the brass gallery rim. No two pieces are identical — the nature of hand-finishing ensures each carries a subtly unique character. Custom finish options and marble selections are available on request.
