edwardian-chinoiserie-hand-painted-corner-table-bird-floral
Edwardian Chinoiserie Hand-Painted Corner Table with Bird & Floral Top

Design & Inspiration

Set this table in the corner of a room and the eye goes immediately to the top — a hand-painted garden of branching florals, scattered blossoms in coral, gold, and soft blue, and at the center a spotted bird perched with quiet confidence. The scene is drawn from the chinoiserie tradition that swept Edwardian drawing rooms at the turn of the twentieth century, when European designers translated the imagined landscapes of the Far East into decorative surfaces that felt both exotic and restrained. The off-white painted frame, with its tapered fluted legs capped by square pad feet, provides exactly the kind of ordered backdrop that allows the painted top to read as a picture rather than mere decoration.

Materials & Craftsmanship

The table is built on a foundation of solid pine dried to below ten percent humidity — a specification that prevents warping and ensures the painted surfaces remain stable for decades. The frame is finished in a warm off-white lacquer applied by hand, with thin teal-blue edge stringing that frames the apron drawer on all visible sides. The leg profile — tapered, deeply fluted, and terminating in a square spade foot — is characteristic of the refined Edwardian interpretation of Neoclassical forms. The painted top panel is the work of a skilled decorative artist: each floral element, each leaf vein, and the detailed plumage of the central bird are applied in multiple passes to achieve the depth and luminosity visible in the finished piece. This is handcrafted furniture in the full sense — no transfer printing, no decal — every line is drawn by hand at the Brass & Wood atelier in Egypt.

Dimensions & Details

Width: 60 cm / Depth: 60 cm / Height: 67 cm
The square footprint fits equally well as a standalone corner accent or flanking an armchair or sofa end. The apron features a shallow drawer with hand-painted floral bouquet pulls on the front face. The table height of 67 cm positions it correctly as a side or lamp table beside standard seating.

Handcrafted in Egypt

Every piece bearing the Brass & Wood name is made to order in our Cairo atelier by craftsmen trained in both European period joinery and classical decorative painting.
