The shaped, serpentine-edged top inlaid with scrolling floral marquetry in warm satinwood and walnut veneers sits above a pierced gilt bronze gallery frieze of extraordinary openwork precision. This is a faithful interpretation of the Napoleon III Rococo Revival side table as it appeared in the grand Parisian apartments of the 1860s: ebullient, technically dazzling, and utterly self-assured.

Materials & Craftsmanship

The frame is built from solid pine, finished in a deep mahogany French polish that amplifies the warm, reddish-brown grain catching light at every angle. The marquetry top is hand-laid in the Parisian tradition — scrolling acanthus and floral motifs assembled from tightly fitted veneers, then polished flush to a glass-smooth surface. The apron is dressed in a continuous pierced gilt bronze frieze, its repeating arch-and-column openwork pattern cast and chased by hand. At each corner of the apron, a bold ormolu mount in the form of a stylized acanthus spray anchors the frieze to the cabriole leg. The legs themselves terminate in delicate cast gilt bronze sabots — a finishing detail that lifts the piece visually off the floor and completes the period vocabulary. The Napoleon III Rococo Revival is distinguished precisely by this combination: mahogany ground, lavish ormolu, and dense surface ornament — a departure from the pale fruitwoods of Restauration and the heavier Empire that preceded it.

Dimensions & Details

Diameter: 45 cm / Height: 86 cm
SKU: TABCOR7842
Country of Origin: Egypt
Wood Species: Solid Pine
Finish: French Polish
Hardware: Gilt Bronze (Ormolu-style) Mounts, Frieze, and Sabots

Handcrafted in Egypt

Every element of this table is produced by hand in Egypt by craftsmen trained in the European classical furniture tradition. The marquetry is cut and fitted by hand; the bronze mounts are individually cast, chased, and finished before being applied to the frame. Brass & Wood's production process treats each piece as a single commission — no two tables emerge from the workshop with precisely the same character of grain or patina depth. This is what separates a handcrafted replica from a mass-produced copy.

Frequently Asked Questions

What materials is this table made from?

The frame is solid pine with a deep mahogany French polish finish.
