art-deco-velvet-barrel-sofa-gold-damask-outer-panel
Art Deco Velvet Barrel Sofa - Gold Damask Outer Panel

Design & Inspiration

The continuous arc from arm to back is the defining statement of this sofa — a single sweeping line that encloses the sitter without confining them. This is the barrel silhouette at its most considered: no sharp transitions, no decorative interruption along the front face, just the disciplined geometry that the Art Deco era elevated into an art form. The navy velvet absorbs light across its face while the gold damask outer panel — revealed only from the side — turns the sofa into a composed two-sided object, as deliberate from across the room as it is up close.

Materials & Craftsmanship

The frame is built from Romanian Solid Redwood seasoned to below 10% humidity, ensuring dimensional stability across seasons. Eight gilt-finished tapered legs — their gold lacquer applied to the Romanian redwood base — carry the frame with a lightness that belies the sofa's generous proportions. The main body is upholstered in a deep navy velvet; the outer back and outer arm panels are dressed in a contrasting gold-on-navy damask woven with scrolling acanthus motifs drawn directly from the Art Deco decorative vocabulary. Loose seat cushions filled with high-density foam offer firm yet yielding support and are fully removable for cleaning.

Dimensions & Details

Width: 257 cm / Depth: 92 cm / Height: 87 cm (4-person configuration). Available in 2, 3, 4, and 5-person sizes. The proportions are calibrated so that the sofa reads as a single sculptural object regardless of size — the arc of the barrel back scales with the seat width to preserve the silhouette's integrity at every size.

Handcrafted in Egypt

Every piece in this family is handcrafted in Egypt by artisans trained in classical European upholstery traditions. The frame joinery is hand-assembled; the fabric is hand-cut and hand-tacked to follow the continuous curve of the barrel back without puckering or pulling.
