Hand-Carved Bed in Antique Ivory with Gilded Garlands
A commanding bed built around an arched headboard that lifts into a crowned centre, where a carved cartouche is tied with a ribbon and set against a padded panel in pale cream. Laurel garlands swag across the footboard and drop from carved ribbon knots, meeting a shell-and-scroll cartouche at the centre, while fluted corner posts capped with rosettes rise at all four corners above turned, tapering feet. The finish is an antique ivory whose every carved edge is caught with a soft gilt patina, so the garlands, flutes and rosettes glow gently against the paler ground.
The garlands, ribbons and rosettes are cut by hand into solid timber, and the gilding is applied and worked back along the raised edges alone, which is what gives the piece its aged, collected look rather than a new-gold brightness. Handcrafted by Brass & Wood in Egypt, this bed asks for a generous master bedroom with height to spare, and settles beautifully among blush, ivory and champagne textiles.
