Louis XV Gilded Salon Armchair with Tapestry Upholstery

Design Inspiration

The SALCHA1972 armchair is a faithful homage to the exuberant Louis XV period, characterised by flowing asymmetric curves, shell and acanthus motifs, and a sense of graceful movement throughout the frame. The centrepiece of the backrest features a hand-rendered figurative tapestry panel depicting classical allegorical figures, surrounded by scrollwork rendered in deep navy and gold — evoking the grandeur of 18th-century French palatial interiors.

Materials & Finish

The frame is constructed from solid hardwood, hand-carved by Brass & Wood craftsmen and finished with genuine gold-leaf gilding applied through traditional water-gilding techniques. The upholstery fabric is a high-quality gobelin tapestry in deep navy with intricate floral and figurative motifs on both the seat and back panels. Brass nailhead trim punctuates the perimeter of each upholstered surface, adding a refined finishing detail.

Craftsmanship

Every element of this armchair is produced by hand in the Brass & Wood atelier in Egypt. Carvers trace every curve of the cabriole leg, every shell relief on the apron, and every scroll on the armrest by hand. The gilding process involves multiple layers of bole and gold leaf burnished to a warm, lustrous finish. Upholstery is stretched and tacked by hand to ensure lasting tension and a perfectly tailored silhouette.
