This Louis XV Rococo display cabinet is that piece. Rising 180 cm in ivory lacquer and gilt, it draws the eye upward to its crest: a hand-carved ribbon bow in gold, flanked by cascading polychrome floral garlands in soft rose, blush, and sage. The arched glazed door, framed by C-scroll acanthus cartouches, opens to a mirrored interior that doubles every object placed within it. This is a vitrine designed not just to hold things, but to celebrate them.

Materials & Craftsmanship

The cabinet is faithfully reproduced in the tradition of the Parisian ébéniste workshops of the 1730s–1760s, when Louis XV's court demanded that furniture be as expressive as the painting and sculpture it lived alongside. The frame is constructed from solid beech — a dense, stable timber that accepts fine lacquer and gilt work without movement or crack. The ivory lacquer is applied in multiple coats and hand-rubbed to a satin finish; the gilding on the scrollwork, cabriole legs, and floral mounts is applied in gold leaf over a gesso ground. The glass shelves inside are beveled, and the mirrored back panel amplifies both light and the objects on display. The polychrome floral clusters — roses, bellflowers, and leafwork — are hand-modeled in resin and individually painted, each one a small sculptural act in itself.
