Louis XV Rococo Round Guéridon with Figural Bronze Mounts & Crema Marfil Marble Top
Design & Inspiration
There is a particular pleasure in entering a room and meeting a piece that stops you mid-step. This guéridon does exactly that. Drawing from the design vocabulary of the Louis XV salon at its most confident — roughly 1745 to 1765 — it balances the spirited asymmetry of Rococo ornament with a disciplined circular form that commands attention from every angle. The round silhouette was not incidental in the original tradition: a guéridon placed in the center of a salon was meant to be walked around, admired in the round, and used. This interpretation honors that intention fully.
Materials & Craftsmanship
The base is constructed from solid mahogany, shaped and French-polished to a warm depth that amplifies the gilt-bronze mounts rather than competing with them. Four cabriole legs, each capped with a cast gilt-bronze sabot, rise to a shaped apron dressed in acanthus-scroll mounts and a central cartouche flanked by foliate sprays — the signature decorative vocabulary of the Louis XV atelier. At the crossing of the curved X-stretcher sits the piece's most arresting detail: a fully modeled gilt-bronze putto, seated in a moment of playful repose, a motif drawn directly from the finest Parisian bronziers of the mid-eighteenth century. The circular top is cut from Crema Marfil marble — warm beige with soft veining — providing the visual counterweight that the ornate base demands.

Handcrafted in Egypt
Every element of this guéridon is handcrafted in Egypt by artisans trained in classical European joinery and bronze-casting traditions. The gilt-bronze mounts are individually cast, chased, and gilded by hand. The marble top is hand-cut and edge-finished. The French polish is applied in multiple sessions, each hand-rubbed between coats to achieve the characteristic depth and warmth of a period finish. Brass & Wood produces this piece entirely to order, ensuring each example receives the full attention its complexity demands.
