Louis XVI Neoclassical Octagonal Centre Table with Marquetry & Ormolu
Design & Inspiration
Rooted in the refined elegance of the Louis XVI era, this octagonal centre table draws from the golden age of French royal cabinetmaking. Its softly clipped geometric silhouette, restrained symmetry, and neoclassical ornamental vocabulary — garland swags, acanthus leaves, and floral medallions — reflect the grandeur of Versailles interiors translated for the modern luxury home.
Materials
The tabletop is crafted from richly grained mahogany veneers, arranged in a book-matched parquetry pattern framing a central hand-inlaid marquetry bouquet in contrasting fruitwoods and satinwood. The apron panels are finished in antique ivory lacquer, adorned with cast ormolu bronze bas-relief mounts featuring classical swags and foliate motifs. Legs are solid wood, ebonized to a deep espresso tone and detailed with gilded bronze collars and sabots.
Craftsmanship
Every element of this table is handcrafted by Brass & Wood master artisans in Egypt, who employ time-honoured European techniques including hand-cut marquetry inlay, lost-wax bronze casting, and hand-applied lacquer finishing. The result is a heirloom-quality centrepiece that faithfully honours the legacy of 18th-century French ébénisterie.
