Louis XVI Sèvres-Style Porcelain & Gilt Brass Marble-Top Column Pedestal
Design Inspiration
Rooted in the refined elegance of the Louis XVI era, this column pedestal draws direct inspiration from the celebrated Sèvres porcelain manufactory. The signature bleu céleste turquoise ground is adorned with oval medallions hand-painted with Rococo courtship scenes — graceful dancers in period dress set against pastoral landscapes — enclosed by lavish gilded arabesques and dotted gold highlights. The Corinthian capital, faithfully rendered in richly chased gilt brass, crowns the column with unmistakable aristocratic authority.
Materials & Finish
The cylindrical shaft is crafted from high-fired porcelain finished in a vivid turquoise glaze with gold-leaf painted ornamentation applied by skilled artisan hands. The capital, collar rings, and stepped square base are cast in solid brass and finished to a warm, deep gold, replicating the ormolu mounts of 18th-century French court furniture. The top surface is a genuine marble slab, bringing natural veining and cool elegance to the composition.
Craftsmanship
Every piece is handcrafted at the Brass & Wood atelier in Egypt, where master craftsmen blend centuries-old European techniques with meticulous attention to detail. The hand-painted porcelain panels are individually composed, ensuring no two pedestals are exactly alike. Brass components are hand-chased, polished, and mounted with precision to guarantee structural integrity alongside aesthetic splendour.
