Rococo Dressing Table with Crested Mirror

A long, low dressing table crowned by a tall mirror whose frame is carved right through into a lattice of acanthus leaves and open scrolls, gathered at the top into a shell crest and closed at the base by a carved rosette. The table beneath repeats the same language on a quieter scale: a serpentine apron, drawer fronts scattered with low-relief flowers and foliate sprays, and carved acanthus falling over the knees of the slim cabriole legs, which end in small scrolled feet. Everything is hand-finished in a warm antique brass tone, with the raised carving rubbed to a lighter highlight.

The mirror frame is carved and pierced by hand, then finished to match the table so the two read as a single piece. Handcrafted by Brass & Wood in Egypt, it belongs against a long wall in a master bedroom or dressing room, where the mirror lifts the ceiling line and the top leaves room for perfumes, a tray and a facing pair of lamps.
