Design Inspiration

Rooted in the refined austerity of late 18th-century French court furniture, this writing desk channels the spirit of the Louis XVI era — a period that traded the exuberance of Rococo for disciplined Neoclassical symmetry. Straight, tapered legs, restrained gilded swags, and a sober palette of warm mahogany and antique gold come together in a composition that is simultaneously grand and scholarly.

Materials & Finish

The body is crafted from solid mahogany, chosen for its rich, deep grain and structural longevity. The tabletop surface is inlaid with hand-cut marquetry in contrasting wood veneers, forming an intricate central floral medallion surrounded by scrolling foliate tendrils. The apron and drawer fronts are dressed in hand-chased ormolu mounts — gilt-bronze castings depicting classical swag garlands, ribbon bows, and acanthus rosettes. Tapered, fluted legs are finished in a deep mahogany lacquer and capped with polished brass sabots.

Craftsmanship at Brass & Wood

Every element of this desk is produced by Brass & Wood's master craftsmen in Egypt, drawing on centuries-old European joinery and gilding traditions. The marquetry is hand-cut and individually laid, piece by piece; the bronze mounts are lost-wax cast and hand-finished to an antique gilt patina. Three functional drawers — one central, two flanking — run on smooth wooden slides, combining authentic period construction with practical everyday use.
