Louis XVI Marquetry Nesting Tables Set – Gilded Brass & Inlaid Hardwood
Design Inspiration
This magnificent nesting table set draws its spirit from the refined court of Louis XVI, where Neoclassical ideals of symmetry, restraint, and botanical beauty converged. The centrepiece — a kidney-shaped tray table — echoes the celebrated tables à plateau favoured by Marie Antoinette's inner circle, while the three graduated side tables capture the era's love of functional elegance. Each surface is a canvas of hand-cut floral and foliate marquetry rendered in contrasting native hardwoods, evoking the finest Parisian ébénisterie of the 18th century.
Materials & Finish
The set is built on a foundation of solid hardwood, hand-turned on fluted, tapered legs that terminate in polished antique-brass sabots. The aprons and column capitals carry cast ormolu-style brass mounts — garlands, rosettes, and acanthus reliefs — finished in warm antique gold. The oval tray table is framed by a pierced brass gallery, adding both grandeur and practicality. Every veneer panel is hand-selected for grain, colour, and tonal harmony before being precisely cut and laid in intricate medallion and arabesque patterns.
Craftsmanship
Each piece in this collection is individually made by Brass & Wood master craftsmen in Egypt, carrying forward centuries-old joinery and marquetry traditions. The legs are hand-fluted and shaped on a lathe, the brass fittings individually cast and hand-chased, and the marquetry inlays hand-laid piece by piece under close artisan supervision. No two sets are entirely identical — natural wood variation ensures every table carries its own unique character.
