Louis XVI Neoclassical Tea Trolley with Ormolu Mounts & Marquetry

Design Inspiration

Rooted in the refined grandeur of the French Louis XVI court, this tea trolley — known in French as a table à thé — captures the disciplined elegance of late 18th-century Neoclassicism. Straight tapered legs, symmetrical friezes of putti and garlands, and scrolling acanthus supports all speak to a period when order and beauty were considered inseparable ideals.

Materials & Finish

The frame is crafted from premium solid mahogany, its warm reddish-brown tone deepened by a hand-applied lacquer finish. Every surface is enriched with fine marquetry inlay — delicate cartouches and foliate scrolls rendered in contrasting veneers. Lavish ormolu (gilt-bronze) mounts crown every corner, frieze panel, leg collar, and stretcher: hand-chased figurative panels depicting putti amid garland swags, sinuous acanthus-scroll uprights supporting the upper gallery tier, and claw-footed sabots at the base.

Craftsmanship

Each piece is hand-built in the Brass & Wood atelier in Egypt by artisans trained in classical European joinery and lost-wax bronze casting. The removable upper brass gallery tray features a pierced egg-and-dart border, providing both ornament and practical containment. The lower shelf echoes the marquetry of the main top, unifying the composition across all three tiers.
