Louis XV Transitional Mirrored Commode with Ormolu Mounts & Marble Top

LE 114,675.61

Design Inspiration

Rooted in the opulent Transitional period bridging Louis XV and Louis XVI, this commode embodies the graceful evolution from Rococo exuberance toward Neoclassical refinement. The sweeping garland and tassel ormolu swags across the façade, paired with elegantly curved cabriole legs, evoke the grandeur of Versailles interiors and the finest Parisian ébénisterie of the 18th century.

Materials

The carcass is constructed from solid hardwood dressed in meticulously matched book-matched rosewood veneer with a rich warm-toned finish. Three mirrored panels — one oval centrepiece flanked by two rectangular side mirrors — add luminosity and depth. The crowning top is a slab of genuine beige-veined marble, while all decorative hardware is cast in solid brass with a polished antique gold finish.

Ormolu & Brass Mounts

Every mount — from the draped swag garlands and tassel pendants at the frieze to the acanthus-capped corner sabots and ornate escutcheon — is hand-chased and finished in brilliant antique gold ormolu, faithful to 18th-century French gilding traditions.

Craftsmanship

Handcrafted by Brass & Wood artisans in Egypt, this piece undergoes meticulous hand-fitting of each brass element, hand-polishing of mirror frames, and a multi-stage lacquer process on the veneer to achieve depth and durability worthy of a collector's interior.
