Caned Two-Tier Bedside Commode in Antiqued Ivory

A petite bedside commode in the Louis XVI manner, standing on slender fluted legs that taper to small turned feet and meet the frame at carved rosette blocks. A single drawer with a round pull sits directly beneath the moulded top, and below it two open tiers are inset with woven cane panels — an airy detail that lets the piece sit beside a bed without weighing the corner down. The antiqued ivory finish is rubbed back over the carving, leaving a soft, gently aged surface with the grain still reading through.

The frame is jointed and hand-carved in solid timber, the cane panels woven and set by hand, and the paint layered then burnished at the edges the way age would do it. Handcrafted by Brass & Wood in Egypt, it works as a nightstand flanking a classic bed, or on its own beside an armchair in a reading corner or dressing area, where its open shelves keep books and small things in easy reach.
