Louis XV Bombe Commode with Gilt Bronze Mounts & Marble Top

Design Inspiration

Inspired by the golden age of French Rococo cabinetmaking, this magnificent bombe commode echoes the serpentine elegance of 18th-century Parisian ateliers. Its swelling, curved silhouette and cabriole legs terminating in gilded sabots are faithful homages to the masterworks produced under the reign of Louis XV.

Materials

The body is constructed from solid wood with meticulously laid kingwood veneer arranged in a striking chevron parquetry pattern. The surface is finished to a deep, luminous lacquer polish. The top is fashioned from natural veined marble with a shaped and moulded edge, while all hardware is cast in solid brass with a rich antique gold finish.

Ormolu & Decorative Mounts

Each gilt bronze mount — including the scrolling foliate corner appliques, keyhole escutcheons, and bail-pull handles — is individually cast, hand-chased, and fire-gilded to achieve the warm, nuanced gold tone characteristic of authentic French ormolu. Brass stringing inlays frame each drawer front, adding refined geometric contrast.

Craftsmanship

Entirely handcrafted in Egypt by Brass & Wood artisans trained in classical European joinery, this commode represents hundreds of hours of meticulous woodworking, marquetry, and metalsmithing. Every curve is hand-shaped, every joint precision-fitted, ensuring a heirloom-quality piece built to endure for generations.
