Design & Inspiration

Set this table beside a bergère or at the elbow of a salon sofa and the room acquires an immediate focal point. The shaped top — its eight chamfered corners giving it an almost shield-like profile — frames a central marquetry bouquet whose radiating veneer panels create a sunburst effect that no flat surface can match. This is a Louis XV guéridon drawn from the Parisian ébéniste tradition of the 1730–1770 period, when furniture was expected to be as decorative as a painting and as structurally resolved as a piece of architecture. Faithfully reproduced in the tradition of the French Rococo workshops, this side table carries that same conviction: every detail exists for a reason.

Materials & Craftsmanship

The top is hand-laid marquetry over solid mahogany, with contrasting light and mid-tone veneers arranged in a botanical composition — roses, leaves, and buds radiating from a central bloom. A stringing border of pale boxwood demarcates the bouquet panel from the surrounding quartered veneer field, a hallmark technique of period ébénisterie. The apron below is finished in a deep mahogany French polish and fitted with panels of fine brass grillework — another signature of the Louis XV style — framed on each side by scrolled cartouche mounts in cast gilt bronze. Four slender cabriole legs sweep outward with characteristic S-curve grace, each knee capped with a cast acanthus-leaf mount and each foot terminating in a delicately scrolled gilt bronze sabot. The ormolu mounts — apron center, knee caps, corner rosettes, and sabots — are cast and chased by hand, carrying the warm burnished gold tone of quality gilt bronze.

Handcrafted in Egypt

At Brass & Wood, every piece in this collection is handcrafted in Egypt by artisans trained in the European classical tradition. The marquetry is cut and laid by hand; the ormolu mounts are individually cast, filed, and burnished. This is not mass production — it is workshop production in the truest sense, where the skill of the maker is visible in every joint, every inlay, and every carved detail. Bringing the grandeur of the French Rococo into the modern home is the founding purpose of this collection, and this table embodies that mission.

Frequently Asked Questions

The frame and top are constructed from solid mahogany finished in French polish. The decorative top features hand-laid floral marquetry in contrasting wood veneers with boxwood stringing. Can this table be customized?

Yes. Brass & Wood offers customization on wood finish tone, brass color (gold, antique gold, or bronze), and marquetry pattern on request. Please contact our team before placing your order to discuss your requirements.
