The headboard rises to 170 cm — a sweeping, shaped silhouette crowned by a hand-carved acanthus-and-shell crest in burnished gold-leaf, flanked by generous C-scroll volutes that curl outward with the confidence of a period at ease with its own opulence. The duck-egg blue of the upholstery — a colour the 18th century called bleu céleste — sets the gilded frame into sharp, composed relief.

Materials & Craftsmanship

The frame is built from solid beech, giving the carving medium both structural integrity and the close grain needed for the fluid, high-relief scrollwork that defines this piece. Every carved element — the shell crest, the flanking acanthus scrolls, the central shell medallion on the footboard — has been worked by hand before receiving a layered antiqued gold finish that catches light differently at every angle, never flat, never uniform. The upholstery panels on both headboard and footboard are worked in a diamond-quilted cotton in a serene duck-egg blue, a quiet field that allows the gilded frame to do its full work. The bed rests on a timber slat system, accepting a standard 200×200 cm mattress.
