Brass & Wood Louis XVI Burl Wood & Gilt Bronze Buffet
Design & Inspiration
This monumental buffet draws directly from the finest traditions of Louis XVI French ébénisterie, where symmetry, architectural proportion, and restrained grandeur define every line. The demilune curved ends, the central frieze of stacked drawers flanked by two large door bays, and the continuous gilt-bronze cornice all echo the great royal commodes and meubles d'appui of 18th-century Versailles.
Materials & Finish
The carcase and door panels are veneered in deeply figured burl wood whose dramatic flame and eye patterns create a natural tapestry across the entire façade. Ivory-toned pilaster inserts provide a sharp chromatic contrast, while the profusion of hand-cast gilt-bronze mounts — acanthus-leaf friezes, laurel-wreath corner spandrels, sunburst medallion rosettes, and swan-neck pull handles — clothes every surface in warm gold luminosity. Slender tapered feet with brass sabots complete the silhouette.
Craftsmanship
Each piece is hand-assembled and finished by Brass & Wood craftsmen in Cairo. Dovetailed drawer boxes, full-overlay hinged doors with interior shelving, and individually fitted bronze hardware ensure heirloom-grade durability. Every gilt-bronze element is individually cast, chased, and applied by hand.
