Champagne Gilt Louis XVI Ribbon and Wreath Bedroom Set

A full Neoclassical suite carried in a warm champagne gilt, where every case piece repeats the same signature: a laurel wreath tied with a carved ribbon bow, applied in high relief to the front. The bed answers it with an upholstered headboard framed in a moulded arch and crowned by a ribbon-and-swag crest. The chest of drawers is squared and stately, flanked by half-round fluted columns and standing on carved block feet, while the bedside commode pairs a top drawer over a wreath-fronted cupboard. The dressing table spans two cabinets, each with its own carved wreath, around a central knee-hole, and lifts into a tall arched mirror finished with a ribbon crest.

The ornament is hand-carved and then gilded and gently rubbed back so the champagne leaf reads as aged rather than new, with fluting, beading and rosette blocks cut by hand to keep the Louis XVI geometry crisp. Handcrafted by Brass & Wood in Egypt, this is a suite for a large principal bedroom with height to spare - it holds its own against deep wall colours and looks its best under warm lamplight, which is exactly what the raised carving was shaped to catch.
